John G. Perry

John G. Perry is an English bassist who emerged in the band Gringo with (future Sailor) drummer Henry Marsh. After the 1971 release Gringo, Perry joined Caravan for their 1973/74 albums For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night and Caravan and the New Symphonia. In 1975, he deputized the bass slot in Curved Air for their comeback album Midnight Wire.

As a solo artist, he debuted with the 1976 Decca release Sunset Wading, produced by Rupert Hine. Perry and Hine formed Quantum Jump, which released the 1976/77 albums Quantum Jump and Barracuda on the Electric Record Company. Concurrently, he backed Gordon Giltrap and played on Hine-produced titles by Anthony Phillips (Wise After the Event, Sides), and Cafe Jacques (Round the Back, International).

In 1978, Perry surfaced in the supergroup Aviator with guitarist/singer Mick Rogers (Manfred Mann’s Earth Band) and half of Blodwyn Pig. They released the albums Aviator and Turbulence on Harvest. During the 1980s, Perry notched backing credits with folkster Adrian Snell, singer Bernardo Lanzetti (Acqua Fragile, PFM), and Sally Oldfield.

John Gerald Perry was born on January 19, 1947, in Auburn, New York, to British parents who moved the family back to England when he was a child.
