Atlantis is a 1975 double-album by American post-bop pianist McCoy Tyner, recorded live at San Fran’s legendary Keystone Korner jazz club and released on the Milestone label.
Side four consists of the track “Love Samba,” which is warmed with a torrent of percussion for the first 75 seconds. Suddenly, the ensemble kicks in over a double assault of drums and percussion with speedy, semi-improvised keys from Tyner over a descending bass-line by Joony Booth. Amidst the harmolodic hurricane, angularity recurs in the form of a bridge that straddles the far tonalities of E-flat and G. At alternate intervals, saxist Azar Lawrence nabs the spotlight with fluid runs. At around 9:10, the storm subsides for a double-bass feature. A few minutes of sax fluttering follows before the brisk ensemblic storm resumes around 12:50.
