McCoy Tyner

McCoy Tyner (Dec. 11, 1938 — March 6, 2020) was an American jazz pianist with a musical career that spanned more than six decades. After a series of apprenticeships with Art Farmer, Curtis Fuller, and Freddie Hubbard, he made his band-leading debut with Inception in 1962. Up through 1970, he maintained a biannual release schedule on the Impulse and Blue Note labels. His 1972 release Sahara began a decade-long run of aggressive post-pop recordings for Milestone Records.
