Wax was an American soul-funk septet that released the 1980/81 RCA albums Wax Attack and Do You Believe in Magic.

Background
Wax emerged in Washington, D.C., where singer-synthesist Bennie Melton Jr. and guitarist-vocalist Joseph Lattisaw Jr. formed a seven-piece with keyboardist James “Chan” Claggett Jr., percussionist David Searles, bassist Ronnie Kidd, drummer Steve Wagner, and saxophonist Charles Moritt.
Melton and Lattisaw wrote seven of the eight songs on the first album, co-arranged with producer Bobby Eli. David Carpin headed Dancer Productions in Washington and served as executive producer on the first Wax recordings. Wax entered Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia with Eli and Carpin to record Wax Attack.
