Frob -

Frob was a German jazz-rock band that made a 1976 album on Musikladen.

Members: Philippe Caillat (guitar), Peter Schmits (keyboards), Klaus-Dieter Richter (bass), Peter Meuffels (drums)

Formation

Frob formed in 1973 and performed three years around their Rheda-Wiedenbrück homebase.

The Album

Frob released their self-titled album in 1976 on Musikladen.

The album contains eight high-paced instrumentals dominated by Philippe Caillat’s frenzied fretwork and Peter Meuffel’s rapid-fire drumming. They set trails ablaze for the darting basslines of Klaus-DieterRichter and the icy organ fills of Peter Schmits on the tracks “Locomotive” and “Flash.”

Post-Frob

Meuffels teamed with Missus Beastly/Virus alumni for a one-off single under the moniker Black Ass. He appeared on subsequent albums by German composer George Kochbek and ex-Frumpy guitarist Rainer Baumann.

Caillat recorded an album with the jazz quartet BiCollection and released a string of Eighties solo albums.
