Frob were a German instrumental quartet that was active during the mid-1970s. Formed in 1973, the band gigged around their Rheda-Wiedenbrück homebase for several years and issued a self-titled longplayer on the Musikladen label in 1976.

Members: Philippe Caillat (guitar), Peter Schmits (keyboards), Klaus-Dieter Richter (bass), Peter Meuffels (drums)

A mostly high-paced affair, the album is dominated by Caillat’s frenzied fretwork and Meuffels rapid-fire drumming. The two set trails ablaze amidst the darting bass-lines of Richter and the icy organ fills of Schmits on the tracks “Locomotive” and “Flash.”

After Frob split, Meuffels teamed with Missus Beastly/Virus alumni for a one-off single under the moniker Black Ass and subsequently appeared on albums by German composer George Kochbek and ex-Frumpy guitarist Rainer Baumann. Meanwhile, Caillat recorded an album with jazz quartet BiCollection and released a string of solo LPs during the 1980s.
