Patrick Gammon

Patrick Gammon (Jan. 15, 1956 — Oct. 28, 1996) was an American R&B singer, born in Seattle but based for most of his career in Munich, Germany. In 1978, he released the album Rawness on the German Gammarock label (issued on French Mercury as Effervescence.) His 1979 release, Don’t Touch Me , appeared stateside on Motown.

Background

He was born Patrick Neal Gammon on January 15, 1956, in Seattle, Washington. Gammon first performed with Robbie Hill’s Family Affair, an early Seventies local soul group. He then auditioned for Ike & Tina Turner and joined the Kings of Rhythm as a pianist and keyboardist in the couple’s Revue. Gammon left the revue by 1976 and began a solo career.

Gerhard Augustin, former manager of Ike & Tina Turner, produced Gammon’s 1976 debut solo single “Party Hardy,” issued in Britain by Galaxy Records. Chrysalis president Terry Ellis signed Gammon to a worldwide recording contract in November 1976, with Augustin as manager. Gammon and Augustin also formed Gammarock in Los Angeles that year. The company became the vehicle for Gammon’s first album, Rawness.
