Emergency Exit

Emergency Exit was a French jazz-rock band behind the 1977 album Sortie de Secours on Pôle.

Members: Robert Latxague (guitar, vocals), Pierre Maggioni (bass, acoustic guitar, vocals), Roger Levy (drums, percussion), Michel Lacrouts (electric piano, percussion)

Background

Emergency Exit formed in 1974 in Bayonne when guitarist-singer Robert Latxague, bassist Pierre Maggioni, and drummer Roger Lévy renamed their earlier group Fosbury Flop’s. The predecessor began in 1970 among Bayonne schoolmates and neighborhood friends, including Latxague, Maggioni, and Lévy. Fosbury Flop’s played original material at MJC youth centers and clubs around the region.

Emergency Exit shifted to French-language material under the new name. Pianist Michel Lacrouts joined the group in 1975, while flutist Pierre Camy and technician Jacques Devaux contributed on a less permanent basis. Lacrouts helped finance an album project with two additional backers. Emergency Exit recorded Sortie de Secours over Easter 1976 at KRS studio in Dax.
