Petula Clark

Petula Clark (born Nov. 15, 1932) is an English singer, composer, and actress with a career in entertainment that dates back to the early 1940s.

During the 1950s, she achieved fame across the UK, Europe, and Oceania with a mix of pop and showtunes. In 1964, she set America and the world alight with the era-defining anthem “Downtown” — a pop evergreen followed by the similarly transcendent “I Know a Place” (1965) and “Don’t Sleep In the Subway” (1967).
