Esther Williams

Esther Williams is an American soul singer who released three albums between 1976 and 1981, setting dance floors alight with “I’ll Be Your Pleasure” and “Last Night Changed It All (I Really Had a Ball).”

Background

Esther Williams was born in Waukegan, Illinois. She attended Waukegan Township High School. Williams also attended the University of the District of Columbia and Washington Saturday College.

Williams established her professional singing career in Washington, D.C., after she won the Miss Black D.C. title. She toured Germany with the Miss Black America organization and appeared on national television and radio programs.

Williams sang on the Eddie Drennon & B.B.S. Unlimited album Collage in 1975 and shared the vocal credit with Dorothy Pritchett. She co-wrote “Do What You Gotta Do” with Drennon and keyboardist Norris Berry. Friends & Company Records signed Williams after Drennon heard her session vocals, including her work on “Let’s Do the Latin Hustle.” Drennon produced Williams on the 1976 debut album Let Me Show You.
