Diethelm / Famulari were a Swiss avant-rock duo comprised of guitarist/keyboardist Thomas Diethelm and keyboardist Santino Famulari. The pair made a 1983 self-titled album on Polydor; reissued the following year as The Flyer on Philips. In 1984, they released Valleys in My Head on Mercury. Individually, Diethelm released the 1981 album Shaved on Spoon Records and Famulari issued the 1987 album L’Artista Santino Famulari! on Fink & Star.

Background
The project commenced in 1982 when guitarist Thomas Diethelm teamed with pianist-keyboardist Santino Famulari, a synthesist and composer.
Diethelm played acoustic guitar and sang with bassist Bruno Brandenberger in Duo Diethelm–Brandenberger by February 1977, when the pair appeared in a Pro Helvetia program in Paris. The duo played the second Folkfestival auf dem Gurten near Bern in July 1978 and issued Didi L’Amour on Gold Records.
Diethelm followed the Brandenberger partnership with the 1981 Spoon Records released Shaved, produced by ex-Can keyboardist Irmin Schmidt with percussionist Trilok Gurtu, violinist Philippe Coutelen, and bassists Urs Klinger and Peter Keiser.
Diethelm and Famulari formed an instrumental union where Thomas played nylon-string guitar through harmonizer and delay effects with added vocals and percussion. They recorded their first album in Fussach, Austria, across December 1982 and January 1983 with Gurtu and engineer Ron Kurz for Polydor.
