Gasoline Alley is the second solo album by English vocalist Rod Stewart, released in June 1970 on Vertigo/Mercury. Featuring Ron Wood on assorted guitars amid layers of sundry stringed instruments, the album further mines the gritty, alternately twangy/pile-driving territory of the singer’s debut.
Mandolin filigree engulfs thick-sliding bottleneck across the title track, while vertical piano runs scale a sparsely-timed take on the John/Taupin-penned “Country Comforts.” Intensity soars across the tom-plunged, string-dueling ensemblic fervor of “Cut Across Shorty” and through the raunchy, riff-strewn swagger of “You’re My Girl (I Don’t Want to Discuss It).”
