Prof. Wolfff was a German jam-psych Krautrock band that made a 1971 self-titled album on Metronome.
Members: Klaus-Peter Schweizer (vocals, guitar, electric piano), Romi Schickle (Hammond, electric piano, vocals), Friedrich “Fritz” Herrmann [aka Friedrich Glorian] (guitar, vocals), Mondo Zech (bass, vocals), Michael “Sam” Sametinger (drums, percussion)
Background
Prof. Wolfff formed in 1971 in Ulm when singer–instrumentalist Klaus-Peter Schweizer (guitar, electric piano) assembled keyboardist Rolf-Michael “Romi” Schickle, bassist Detlev “Mondo” Zech, drummer Michael “Sam” Sametinger, and guitarist Friedrich “Fritz” Herrmann.
Schweizer was born in 1951 in Ulm and traced his early musical interest to a radio broadcast by The Beatles. Herrmann subsequently used the name Friedrich Glorian.
Schweizer previously belonged to Brandenburg, an Ulm group that played Munich’s Blow Up and established contact with Kuckuck founder Eckart Rahn. Brandenburg dissolved without a release from the Rahn connection, and Schweizer organized Prof. Wolfff in Ulm. They connected with concert organizer Carlheinz Gern for dates across Germany.
Jonas Porst, manager of Ihre Kinder, produced Prof. Wolfff at Jankowsky Studio in Stuttgart in October 1971 with engineer Klaus Reiser. Prof. Wolfff appeared on SWF’s Talentschuppen in November. The group split in March 1972 with the self-titled album still pending on Metronome.
