Miro -

Miro — aka Mario Baldoni (born 1943) — is an Italian singer/songwriter who cut numerous group and solo singles from 1965, culminating with three Zeus singles and the 1973 album Per Conoscermi. After another round of singles on Joker, he released the 1977–79 albums Real Life Games and Ambiguità on Vedette Records.

Background

Miro was born Mario Baldoni in 1943 in Macerata, Marche, Italy. Baldoni grew up in Macerata and sang with the regional Orchestra Aloisi alongside his father. He earned a secondary-school diploma in accounting and moved to Perugia.

Baldoni won the Marche selections for the Festival di Castrocaro in Porto Recanati, then entered the 1964 Festival degli Sconosciuti in Ariccia as Mario Baldoni. He secured a Jolly contract through the Ariccia appearance and debuted in 1965 with “Ero io” (b/w “Argini”). Baldoni adopted the Miro Banis name with I Transistors, who released “Un giorno qualunque” (b/w “La tua voce”) on Metropol in 1967. The group also cut “Proposta” and “C’è chi spera” for the Sanremo ’67 compilation, then released “Cosa cerchi” (b/w “Portami con te”) in 1969 on Parade.

I Transistors disbanded in 1969; Banis formed Woo-Doo for club dates around Perugia. Baldoni adopted Miro for solo releases in 1970 and signed with Edibi. He entered the Festival di Napoli with “‘A nave,” paired at the festival with La Nuova Generazione. Baldoni then joined Zeus and recorded “Che succede stasera,” the theme for the television program Piccola ribalta. He reached Un disco per l’estate in 1973 with “Tu mi regali l’estate,” then completed Per conoscermi, the first Miro album.
