Chalis

Chalis was an American symphonic-rock band from North Dakota that released the 1975 album One Small Chance on self-press Ellen Abby.

Background

Chalis formed in June 1974 in the Fargo–Moorhead area with Steve Germaine, Rick Hartfiel, LeClaire Jacobson, Marc Robinson, and teenager Jeff Sauvageau, who was born in 1958 and graduated from West Fargo High School with the 1976 class. The group played the local club circuit and held an October engagement at the Lamp Lite in Moorhead.

Chalis stockpiled originals by Germaine, Jacobson, and Robinson. The group entered Friendship Studio with producer Kit Grove for the sessions that became One Small Chance.

(Contrary to certain databases, Chalis has no connection to the namesake band that cut the 1972 single “Streakin’ Fool” / “Silver Sun” — both credited to Mark Crouch and GB Kelley — on the New York GP label.)
