Absolute Elsewhere

Absolute Elsewhere was an English electro-symphonic project that yielded the album In Search of Ancient Gods on Warner Bros. in 1976. The project was led by composer/multi-instrumentalist Paul Fishman and co-produced with his father Jack Fishman. Percussion on the album is played by Bill Bruford (credited here as William Bruford).

The album is subtitled An Experience in Sound and Music Based on the Books of Erich von Däniken. The back cover states, “Sounds from space recorded at the University of Manchester’s Nuffield Radio Astronomy Laboratories, Jodrell Bank, and by the British Astronomical Association.”

The younger Fishman later fronted synthpopsters Re-Flex and worked with Mike Rutherford. Bassist Jon Astrop recorded with New Wavers X-Effect and The Group. Guitarist Phil Saatchi cut a pair of solo albums on A&M in the late 1980s and played in Sam Brown’s backing band.
