Abedul

Abedul was a Spanish symphonic-rock band behind the 1979 Columbia album Nosotros.

Members: Albert Aranega (keyboards), Narcis Baiges (vocals), Pedro Castro (bass), José Luis Pérez (guitar), Lluis Visiers (drums)

Background

Abedul formed circa 1978 in Barcelona when guitarist Josep Lluís Pérez teamed with bassist Pedro Castro Bruque and drummer Lluís Visiers.

Pérez grew up with a musician father and grandfather. He progressed from private music lessons to conservatory studies. Castro (b. December 7, 1954; La Bañeza, León) moved in 1968 to Barcelona, where he combined secondary school with acoustic guitar lessons. The bassist switched in the mid-1970s from guitar to bass for Machine Rock, which accompanied singer Luc Barreto and the pop-vocal trio Nubes Grises.

Keyboardist Albert Aranega joined the trio alongside singer Narcís Baiges. The quintet combined hard rock with symphonic arrangements and wrote songs with English and Spanish lyrics. Abedul contacted Columbia and secured an album deal. The musicians entered Estudios Columbia in Barcelona for the 1979 debut Nosotros.
