Nobilis Factum

Nobilis Factum was a Mexican symphonic-rock band behind a 1982 self-titled album on Pentagrama.

Members: Enrique Balderas (piano, synthesizer, vocals), Miguel Caldera (drums, percussion, synthesizer), Jesús Padilla (guitar, synthesizer), Guillermo Nava (vocals, bass, synthesizer)

Background

Nobilis Factum emerged in 1980 from Un Siglo Después, a jazz-rock group associated with the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, which awarded the ensemble a two-year scholarship. The lineup included keyboardist Enrique Balderas, guitarist Jesús Padilla, Javier Arjona, Ernesto Castro, and Luis Espadín. The group performed at university venues and in municipalities across the State of Mexico, with additional appearances in Mexico City.

By the time of the debut album, Balderas and Padilla played alongside bassist Guillermo Nava and drummer Miguel Caldera. Nava was born in Cuernavaca, where he studied guitar at the Instituto Regional de Bellas Artes. He continued his studies at the Escuela Nacional de Música in Mexico City, then played bass for theatrical productions and attended the jazz workshop at the Escuela Superior de Música. All four Nobilis Factum members balanced keyboards and vocals alongside their principal instruments.

Nobilis Factum performed at universities and cultural centers across several Mexican states and the Federal District. They also entered “Armónicos en crisol” in a jazz competition at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. The musicians subsequently recorded their debut album with producer Modesto López for Ediciones Pentagrama, his newly established independent label.
