Génesis

Génesis were a Colombian folk-rock trio that formed in 1972 and was active for 20 years. The band recorded seven albums and drew local crowds with the mid-’70s releases Génesis and Yakta Mama.

Frontman Humberto Monroy was a veteran of the Bogota scene, having earlier played in garage/psych band The Speakers and jam-rockers Siglo Cero. His one solo album, Sol y Luna, appeared in 1975.

On the brink of a proposed European tour in 1983, Génesis — wishing to avoid confusion with the namesake English band — briefly changed its name to Maiz. The band folded in 1992 upon Monroy’s death.
