Background

Donald Rae Austin was a Detroit guitarist, songwriter, arranger, and session musician active in the local soul-funk scene by the early Seventies. Austin debuted in 1972 with the two-part instrumental “Side Saddle,” released on local Woody Records under producer Woody Wilson.

Austin and Wilson followed late that year with “Crazy Legs,” which gained Detroit radio attention. Armen Boladian formed Eastbound Records in December 1972 and picked up the single for the new Westbound subsidiary. Austin then prepared the material for the spring 1973 album Crazy Legs.
