Dave Pike

Dave Pike (March 23, 1938 — Oct. 4, 2015) was an American cool-jazz vibraphonist from Detroit who played with Paul Bley and the Jazz Couriers during the late 1950s. In 1961, Pike debuted as a bandleader with an album on Riverside Records, followed by albums on New Jazz, Moodsville, and Atlantic. In 1968, he assembled the jazz-rock Dave Pike Set with Dutch and German musicians. The band released five albums on MPS and another on Relax between 1969 and 1973. Pike followed the act with a string of albums on Muse Records during the late 1970s. He was also a regular backing player for Herbie Mann.
